The Gilded Straits – Selubang Mutiara

$7,000.00

Two earrings. Two ways to wear them.

The South Sea pearls stand alone — round, luminous, sufficient. Or they sit within golden jackets drawn from early Straits-era metalwork: the scrolling forms that predate the more formalised florals of regional port-city jewellery. Before the styles were codified, there was this — ornament that moved between contexts without explanation.

The detachable design isn’t a feature. It’s the point. Straits dressing was never fixed. It answered to temple, to shophouse, to reception hall. The same person, differently composed.

Selubung — veil, enclosure, shelter. The pearl doesn’t disappear inside its jacket. It becomes something else.
